Mostly goes to “data” projects.
Because most data projects rely on records.
They take records and improve the quality of the records to the point where their information content is accessible enough to be valuable as an input to something else.
Or they take records and improve the quality of the information in them so they can run statistical analysis and use the information to make evidence based decisions
These are all records projects.
The reason that they’re not coming to records, is that most records managers have decided that raising the quality of their records isn’t their job.
So someone else is doing it.
And records “doesn’t have enough people” and “doesn’t get enough money”.
Because most records managers have decided that the valuable bit is someone else’s job.
Information Governance 
Again you are so correct here Karl this is why I do not like the use or overuse of the word “data”. It conjures up the image of Bits and Bytes and has an IT inference to it that leads to data projects and the money being assigned to that group of people or performance management people.
People forget that the word “information” is the starting point and its natural progression in gathering it is to ensure you have the “right content in the right context” which then begets “knowledge” “which begets“understanding” followed by wisdom.
Who are the people who understand this fully they are dedicated records and information management people and like you should be the group raising the quality of their records which they are responsible for not someone else.
More money and more resources to the Records and IM Function I say
